Al Young graduated from Miami University in 1970 with a Bachelor’s in Music Ed. She taught jr. high band and chorus in Driggs, ID for 15 years. She has been involved in the Jackson Hole Music Community for many years.

Al has had many director experiences in our community over the years and continues to direct some groups regularly. In 1988, Al joined the JH Chorale. Al became the assistant director and then the director when Bob Partridge retired in 2003. She started a Sweet Adeline’s Quartet called ‘The Youngsters’ in 2003 and sings bass in that quartet.

In 1990, she joined the JH Community Band. Al became the assistant director under Don Cushman and then took over as director when he retired in 2005. Al was the band’s conductor for 1 year.

Al also directed the Jackson Hole Symphony Orchestra for 2 years and around the same time period was the director of the Driggs Community Choir that performed the Messiah for 10 years.

Al’s stage accomplishments include director of the musical INTO THE WOODS in 2003 and a cast member of HAIR in 2007.

In the mid 90’s, Al became a member of the Jackson Hole Brass Quintet in which she still plays trombone on a regular basis.

In addition to directing musical organizations, Al has given private vocal lessons and taught adult music theory classes.
