Bio

The Jackson Hole Community band is a 30-piece ensemble founded in 1989. We rehearse nearly year-around to provide free entertainment – from old favorites by Duke Ellington, to toe tapping marches by Sousa, to classics by Mussorgsky, at many community events, public concerts, and parades. Our members, all volunteers, hail from backgrounds as diverse as engineering, software, medicine, law, real estate, and the clergy and range in age from early-teens to the eighties. We have no skill level requirement or auditions, but prefer people who have played at least the junior high skill level. Most members have had a 15- to 20- year break before joining. It’s never too late to join! To supply musical accompaniment to special events for the benefit of both the musicians and the audience.

Remember us at Old Bills

This 50-piece ensemble, founded in 1989, rehearses nearly year-around to provide free entertainment—from old favorites by Duke Ellington, to toe tapping marches by Sousa, to classics by Bach. In 2010 JHCB implemented two annual concerts for kids and our Halloween performance had over 350 people in attendance, including over 200 school children. Members, all volunteers, range in age from the teens to the 80s and hail from backgrounds as diverse as engineering, software, medicine, law, real estate, and the clergy.

Won’t you jump on the bandwagon? Your support of the Jackson Hole Community Band helps to buy new music, keeps our performance trailers rolling, pay rent in our rehearsal space in the Jackson Hole Center for the Arts, and supply our equipment and instrument needs, among many other things.

Please consider a contribution to the Jackson Hole Community Band through Old Bill’s Fun Run 2012, where your donation will be augmented by generous community philanthropists.

Community Band Seeking Music Director

.. to begin late summer, 2012

The Jackson Hole Community Band, a musical fixture in Jackson Hole concerts, parades, and other public events since 1989, is regretfully saying farewell to its music director and conductor, Art Fuerte. The band credits Fuerte for bringing them to a new level of performance through the challenging and varied repertoire he chose, and the leadership he brought to rehearsals and performances during the last several years.

With Mr. Fuerte’s departure, the band is seeking someone to replace him, beginning late summer, 2012.  JHCB is looking for someone with experience in conducting concert bands – especially community based organizations with a wide range of skills.  The music director, in addition to conducting the group at rehearsals and concerts, chooses concert repertoire, works with the JHCB board to acquire necessary equipment and musical scores, and serves as the inspirational leader of the band.

Finally, the band is looking for someone to inspire, excite, and satisfy band members and the public alike, keeping the JHCB tradition of working and performing for enjoyment and musical satisfaction alive and strong.

As one member put it, “It has to be fun!”

The Jackson Hole Community Band is a group of committed musicians from teenagers to retirees.  Members vary in skill level and background from middle school students to professional musicians.  Most are from the Jackson area, but a few come from Idaho and other parts of Wyoming.  The band rehearses weekly on Thursday nights, and performs three full concerts a season, as well as for several community events during the year – including  the Old West Days Parade, July 4th events (notably as the opening musical ensemble in Music in the Hole concerts), and at Old Bills, to name a few.
