Dear Band Family,
I am very sad to share the passing of Jerry Singleton. About 9:30PM Tuesday evening, after dinner and while entertaining guests, Jerry went downstairs to get a bottle of wine, and collapsed at the bottom step. 911 responded to a call fairly quickly, but to no avail. Jerry Singleton was DOA upon arrival at the local hospital.
Sue asked that I spread the word to Jerry’s colleagues in the music community, mostly in Jackson Hole where he did most of his playing in the concert band on oboe/English horn and jazz band on various saxes. The cause is yet to be determined, although it was sudden and unexpected from any known medical history.
A perfect friend and colleague. A wonderful guy, an enthusiastic amateur musician, Navy combat veteran with all the bells, recognition and medals one might ideally expect from a long career in the service. Very modest. Not much to add, except for the shock of learning a very good man has gone down without any reason to expect he would check out so suddenly. I add this information as I imagine you might want to know any details that are available – and Sue asked that you be apprised of same.
Services will be a family-only affair followed by Jerry being laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. Sue asked that we remember him in a future concert. I am already making plans to do just that and welcome your thoughts as to how we can honor such a wonderful member of our family.
Sorry to be the bearer of such sad news. A tough one to comprehend and digest.
Jennifer
