The Alto Flute is a member of the Western concert flute family, pitched in G—sounding a perfect fourth below the standard C flute. It produces a warm, mellow, and rich tone that blends beautifully with other woodwinds and adds depth to concert band and wind ensemble arrangements. The instrument is longer than the standard flute, with a wider bore, which contributes to its distinctive timbre. Alto flutes are often used in lyrical passages, slow movements, or to provide harmonic support in ensemble textures.
