Jackson Elementary 2018
Jackson Elementary, 2018 — Richard demonstrates the Glockenspiel during the Community Band’s annual visit, sharing musical discovery with young students.

The glockenspiel is a tuned percussion instrument made of metal bars arranged like a keyboard, played with hard mallets. While musically similar to concert bells, glockenspiels are often designed for portability and durability—frequently mounted vertically or worn in harnesses for outdoor performances. Their piercing, bright tone makes them ideal for cutting through outdoor acoustics in parades, field shows, or street festivals.

If you hear bright chimes dancing through the air at an outdoor event, that’s the glockenspiel lighting up the parade route.
