From 1997 through 2012, the Grand Teton Music Festival’s free community concert—Music in the Hole—was a cherished Fourth of July tradition, drawing crowds of 10,000 or more to the athletic fields behind Jackson Hole Elementary School. The Jackson Hole Community Band proudly opened the festivities with lively performances before enjoying the rest of the concert. For many years, the event culminated in a powerful rendition of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, complete with Wyoming National Guard howitzers. This gallery honors the band’s role in this memorable chapter of Jackson’s Independence Day celebrations.
