Last fall, we shared a look inside something most people never see—our Music Library. It’s a space filled with decades of history, from well-worn scores to pieces that have quietly waited their turn on the shelf.
This spring, we’re bringing some of that music to life.

Our upcoming Spring Concert, Discoveries in Sound, pulls from across the years. Some of the pieces have been part of our collection for a long time but haven’t been played in decades. Others are getting their very first performance by the band.
A Familiar Favorite
At the center of the program is First Suite in E-flat by Gustav Theodore Holst—a piece many consider a cornerstone of band music, and one that still feels as vibrant today as when it was written. You’ll also hear An Outdoor Overture by Aaron Copland, full of energy and wide-open sound that’s instantly recognizable.

A Piece Worth Discovering
The program also includes works that may be new to many listeners. Scenes from “The Louvre” by Norman Dello Joio brings a series of musical snapshots inspired by art, while Prelude, Siciliano, and Rondo by Malcolm Arnold offers contrast, character, and a bit of playfulness.
New to Our Stage
There are quieter moments as well. With Quiet Courage by Larry D. Daehn was written in memory of someone close to the composer and brings a reflective, heartfelt tone to the program.

And then there are the pieces that feel like true finds—music that’s been sitting in our library, waiting for the right time. Works like Passacaglia for Band by Anne McGinty and Colorburst by George Kenny add fresh energy and a sense of discovery to the afternoon.
What ties it all together is simple: this is music with a past, brought into the present. Some of it may feel familiar. Some of it may surprise you. All of it has a story.
