Navigating the JHCBand.org Website
The JHCBand.org website is divided into two main sections, each with a different look and purpose:
✅ Main Website (dark blue/black theme): This is where you are now — the bulletin board lives here. Most of this section is public, so visitors can read general information, concert announcements, and more about our band. The Member Portal menu item provides links to all the important member-only areas.
✅ Music Library / inScoreOrder (brown theme): This section is primarily for members only. Here you’ll find virtual folders, event logistics, the Music Library database, and tools like RSVP and rating music.
✅ Most content is visible to everyone, but sensitive information — like member emails, phone numbers, rehearsal music, and other private details — is behind the log in.
✅ On mobile devices, menus collapse into the three-bar icon (☰). Tap it to see all menu items.
✅ Use the Member Portal menu item in the main site to access the areas you need quickly. It includes all basic links members use to navigate both the main site and the inScoreOrder section.
Think of it like two connected neighborhoods: the Main Website area is the town square, and inScoreOrder is the members-only clubhouse. Once you’re logged in, the whole site opens up!
Why Logging In Matters
Just like showing up to rehearsal with your instrument ready, logging in opens the door to everything that keeps our band in tune:
✅ Bulletin Board Access: View all member-only boards, post topics, and reply — from housing help to attendance issues.
✅ Music Library Tools: Access your virtual folders, RSVP for events, rate music we’ve played, and more.
✅ Band Communications: Get the latest updates, rehearsal notes, and announcements.
✅ Profile & Section Info: Keep your contact and instrument details up to date so directors and section leaders can reach you.
In short — logging in keeps you connected, organized, and part of the rhythm.
Where’s Waldo? (… the Log In Link)
If you’re wondering where the Log In link is hiding — here’s the score!
✅ It’s at the bottom of every page on our site.
✅ It’s also listed under the Member Portal menu on all main website pages.
✅ Within inScoreOrder, you’ll also find it in:
• The Welcome section of the landing page
• The Welcome section of every virtual folder
• The title section of each event detail page
✅ On mobile devices, menus collapse into the three-bar icon (☰) — tap that to find the Log In link.
No detective skills needed — it’s always nearby! Once you log in, you’ll see options and content meant just for active band members.
How to Become an Active Member
✅ You cannot register yourself as an active member — membership must be confirmed by an Administrator.
✅ New members: At the bottom of this page you’ll find both the membership form to download and the online form to submit it. After attending at least one rehearsal, an Administrator will confirm your membership and set up your login access. Learn more about becoming a JHCB member on the Become a Member page.
✅ Inactive members who want to regain full access should speak with an Administrator at rehearsal to be reactivated.
✅ Once your membership is confirmed, you’ll have access to the Members Area, including your Virtual Rehearsal Folder, which mirrors the music in your paper folder and is only available to active, logged-in members.
Bulletin Board vs. Social Media
Ever wonder how our Bulletin Board differs from platforms like Facebook or the Band app? Here’s the quick rundown:
✅ Focused discussions — Each topic lives in a clearly labeled board (like Rehearsals, Announcements, or Events). Posts stay organized, not buried under Piccolo memes and random ads.
✅ No algorithms — Everything is shown in order. You won’t miss announcements or updates because a robot decided you weren’t interested.
✅ Private and secure — We control the privacy settings for each board. Some are open for the public to read, but only logged-in, active members can post or reply. (Fully private boards are clearly marked.)
✅ Searchable history — Need to find that post about concert details or carpooling? It’s all easy to find later—no endless scrolling required.
✅ Better notifications — You choose what to follow. Subscribe to boards or topics that matter to you, and you’ll get detailed email updates (not vague snippets).
In short: social media connects the world—our Bulletin Board connects the band.
A Few Notes Before You Post
Think of our bulletin board like the band room—friendly, focused, and full of music talk. To help keep it useful for everyone, please follow these simple guidelines:
✅ Keep posts about music, band life, or community events.
✅ Be respectful in tone and language—treat others as you would at rehearsal.
✅ Because our group includes minors, keep everything family-friendly.
✅ No politics, profanity, or inappropriate content.
✅ No personal attacks, drama, or spam.
✅ Do not post sales or promotions unless they are directly related to band needs.
✅ Share ideas, ask questions, and help keep the rhythm going!
Understanding Bulletin Board Terms
Here’s a quick guide to the new bulletin board layout so everyone knows what’s what:
✅ Category – The top-level grouping of boards (like “Band Businesses” or “Band Socials”).
✅ Board – A place for related topics within a category (like “Event Details” or “Helping Hands”).
✅ New Topic – Click this to create a new post or discussion in a board.
✅ Reply – Use this to respond to an existing topic.
Think of it like this: Category → Board → Topic → Reply. Once you get the hang of it, it’s easy to navigate and join the conversation!
Getting Email Notifications
To get email notifications, you’ll need log in and subscribe.
✅ Subscribe to a Board to get notified of new topics posted there. Click the board title, then the subscribe button. (Click graphic below)
✅ You can also subscribe to individual topics or even specific users if you’d like. Click the Subscribe button (found under the post or topic title) to choose your options.
✅ You can manage or cancel subscriptions anytime in My Content and Settings.
✅ If you’d like help subscribing to everything, an Administrator can set that up—just post a request by clicking Ask a Question. (if you do not see a button, click this board title)
✅ Unlike some apps, these emails include several paragraphs of the post, not just a snippet—yay!
Calendar Reminders
To get calendar reminders, subscribe to the Google Calendars below and set the reminders on your own device. Each user needs to do this individually.
✅ Rehearsals: JHCB Member Calendar
✅ Events: JHCB Public Events
RSVPs
Must log in to RSVP
✅ RSVPs help the music director plan which music we’ll perform. We post the event date and time as soon as it’s known, so members can RSVP well in advance. Every logged-in band member can mark their attendance with Yes, No, or Maybe for each event.
✅ You can RSVP directly from a virtual folder, or open the event detail page for more options. On the event detail page, members who select Yes can also add themselves to the Roster for that event. Section leaders with the right permissions can RSVP on behalf of members in their section.
✅ If volunteer needs are listed for the event, you can indicate which tasks you can help with by checking the appropriate boxes and updating your RSVP.
✅ Only admins, conductors, and the librarian can view the full RSVP lists, but your response helps the music director plan effectively.
Electronic rosters
✅ New in 2025, event rosters are now managed electronically by music directors, the librarian, and/or Administrators.
✅ Before formal performances, a draft Roster is usually passed around at rehearsal for the program to allow final edits. For smaller events, several photos may be used to complete the final Roster.
✅ Once finalized, the Roster appears near the bottom of the event detail page and in the Event List tab. If you notice any errors, please contact an Administrator so corrections can be made.
✅ Additionally, members’ public bios now include a list of performances, giving everyone a chance to see which events each member has participated in.
Your Member Info
✅ Keeping your member information up to date is important! Your name, contact details, instrument, and section help directors, section leaders, and Administrators communicate effectively and keep the band organized.
✅ This information is used across the JHCB website — from the Member Directory to your Public Bio and your Bulletin Board Profile. Emails, phone numbers, and other sensitive details are visible only to active members who are logged in.
✅ To update your info, log in and click on your profile in the upper right corner of the website. Changes you make there automatically update across all member tools and sections of the site, so everything stays current without extra steps.
JHCB Member Directory
✅ Logged in members can find the JHCB Member Directory in the inScoreOrder portion of the website: Member Directory.
✅ The directory lists all active members in their sections and includes contact info for band communications. Please keep this information within the band — it’s for members' use only.
✅ Use the search tool to find members — whether active, inactive, or historical — or to look up mailing addresses. Some members may not have current addresses listed, so always double-check before sending mail.
Public Bios
✅ Public bios are available on the Our Members page under About Us. Visitors can click “Read Bio” by a member's name to see a self-composed bio and, new in 2025, a list of performances they participated in.
✅ Logged-in members can also see basic contact information.
✅ For guidance on keeping your bio and other member information up to date, see the Your Member Info section above. Keeping your details current ensures both members and visitors have an accurate picture of your involvement with the band.
About our Music Library
Our band has built an impressive collection of music over the years—from classic concert band staples to lesser-known gems. The Music Library Database is your digital gateway to explore this collection.
✅ What You’ll Find: Titles the band currently owns or has performed in past seasons. The database is updated regularly and includes a wide range of styles, composers, and difficulty levels. It’s a great way to get a feel for the music we enjoy—and the kinds of concerts we create.
✅ Click the Music Library link under the Member Portal menu to start exploring.
✅ Member-Only Tools:
- ● Mark Favorites: While browsing, mark pieces you love. Favorites help guide future programming decisions.
- ● Add to the Wish List: Know a piece we don’t own but should? Add it to the Wish List for consideration.
- ● Rate Performed Music: After concerts, once folders are returned, rate each piece we played. Your feedback helps fine-tune our Repertoire to better fit the band’s interests and strengths.
✅ Why It Matters: The more members interact with the library, the more responsive our programming becomes. Your feedback shapes our sound, our Repertoire, and the band we continue to grow into.
Navigating charts
The Music Library tab inside inScoreOrder is your starting point for exploring our catalog. From there, you can browse titles, search specific pieces, and filter results to find what you need.
✅ Click the Music Library tab to view 50 randomly selected charts each time you visit. It’s a great way to discover pieces you might not have seen before.
✅ Use the Title Search or Catalog Number Lookup tools located in the page header to quickly find a specific Chart.
✅ You can also narrow your results using filters such as Genre, Arrangement Type, and more.
✅ These tools make it easy to explore our growing collection and see what music has shaped our performances over the years.
Virtual Folders
Keep all your rehearsal music and event details at your fingertips. You can find your folders on the main landing page of the Music Library and under the Folders tab. Everyone can see the list of available folders, but logging in gives full access to the rehearsal music and additional member resources.
✅ Each virtual folder includes:
● Current rehearsal music (requires login)
● Listening samples
● Rehearsal schedule
● Event details
● part assignments (requires login)
● RSVP Shortcuts (requires login)
● And more member-only features
✅ Physical copies remain in-house to protect rare or irreplaceable scores. The virtual folders let you practice at home and prepare without removing the originals from the rehearsal room.
✅ New members gain access after completing the New Member Form and attending a rehearsal.
Event Details
✅ Each event has a detailed page accessible from virtual folders, the events tab, and the Music Library home page. Here you’ll find:
- ● Date and time of the event (posted as soon as known, so you can RSVP well in advance)
- ● RSVPs (Section leaders with privileges can RSVP on behalf of members when necessary.)
- ● Section leader tools
- ● Option to add yourself to the Roster if attending
- ● List of music in performance order posted when the event is near.
- ● Volunteer needs and the ability to select tasks you can help with
- ● Event Logistics
✅ Once finalized, event rosters appear near the bottom of the event detail page and in the Event List tab.
